Paper jams might be the #1 reason why many people don't like dealing with copiers. We know how frustrating it can be to approach the copier for a print job and instead of seeing your prints neatly stacked on the output tray, a large red exclamation point waits for you on the screen.
There are a lot of reasons for paper jams to occur, but many can be avoided by following these simple rules when using the copier:
- Fan the paper before loading. To ensure paper running through your copier or printer smoothly, run your thumb along the side of a new ream to separate each sheet.
- Load the paper squarely in each drawer. Although this seems silly, by making sure every sheet is loaded properly, you will avoid common jams when paper is fed incorrectly.
- Make sure there are no broken copier parts before printing. If part of the feeding rollers in your printer or copier have broken off, you will receive an error message noting to call for service.
- Check paper settings (size, thickness, etc.) on your printer before using. Copiers will have difficulty printing on card stock thickness or on textured paper if the proper settings are not in place. Also, make sure the paper size is selected correctly before hitting the "Print" button.
Also, after you have removed the jam, or a Phillips technician has removed the jam, print one sheet to test the machine before beginning a print job of significant size. If you receive consistent "paper jam" error messages but cannot see a piece of paper in sight, your machine might be experiencing issues with the pickup or feed rollers in the paper drawers. If you would like to speak with a technician to ask questions about your copier's capabilities, Phillips also features a Help Desk with phone support for just such an occasion.
