Trends in State, Local and Educational Spending for 2017

Nov 8, 2017 9:06:18 AM / by

How much time do you spend on RFPs? Did you know, you can satisfy the requirements for a competitive bid with a cooperative contract purchase.  State and local government agencies in Maryland and Pennsylvania spent over $60 million through cooperative purchasing contract in 2016.

Purchasing departments in the public sector have begun to realize the extraordinary costs and time required to research, write, develop, publish and evaluate their RFP’s.  Many procurement departments have come to realize that Purchasing Cooperatives leverage the procurement power and satisfy regulatory requirements while they reduce hard and soft costs associated with formal bids.

As technologies continue to evolve at a rapid pace, public organizations continue to examine their procurement procedures to identify new ways to save money and time.  Change is slow and the requisitions never slow down, nor can they wait.

The benefits of any public organization participating in a purchasing cooperative:

  • The cooperative satisfies the competitive bid process with which public agencies are bound to comply.
  • The cooperative negotiates directly with the manufacturers on large quantities, regionally or nationally, which maximizes the discount available to the SLED community.
  • Local dealers who are not able to leverage this level of discount can compete where they could not participate before.
  • Virtually eliminates the tedious and complicated reviews of multiple RFP responses that can be highly detailed.
